Sub Urban Art exhibition in sleepy Kleinmachnow

Sometimes I feel really bad of having not that much time for preparing, installing or producing arts as I wanna do. In any way it sounds good and feels much better, when the mates around max out their creative potentialities. Last saturday the exhibition Sub Urban Art: 20 Years Wall Of Frame opened at the prototypen related protolab in Kleinmachnow a large suburbean commune in the southwest of Berlin. A bunch of street artists morphed whitened office rooms into a coloured and bouncing place to be. Falk written a short article about his impressions of the vernissage and you´ll find additional informations about his personal background in conjunction to the exhibition.

Listen up to that band´s new EP

Hard to believe but sometimes I´m in the mood for some Hip Hop stuff. Either me is listening to Oldschool sounds like Dre, Eazy E or Cypress Hill or to this german Berlin related Hip Hop band dropping out a new record.
So if you´re getting tired of pathetic and overwhelming stupid german rap lyrics and dumped techno beats you have to check out www.klartext-hiphop.de and give an ear to them. It´s bad that they don´t give it away as CD or Vinyl, just as Download and you have to pay for of course but it´s the spirit of the age.

Soul BBQ on a 9 till 5 thursday

I tell you a story ´bout misfortune and glory,
´bout found a place, called home in all ways,
´bout kindness and hold, where the heat strikes the cold.
We´re all sailors on a bad weather sea
and hunting for brilliant but pure places to be.
So many times we´d run off the shore
and strangle our deepest and flaming hot core.
I shout in the storm, the rudder we loose,
but all that between us it might be the truth.
My mind is simple, restless but true
and the matter of all now,
the matter is you.

One small hello to the universe

I´m born. Twentynine years past by like a ride on a motorway from A to B and I just want to know what will waiting.

False Friend - The Rising Hope

Hey Dudes and Dudedettes, it´s Whitmonday and you feel lame and dried out? You´re frustrated by all the shit around your reality of life? So I bring up following: Did you ever have heard Berlin´s False Friend? No? I knew it all along and you´re wondering why you´re getting lazier every day! False Friend´s vocalist and guitarist Vik introduce me in his band a couple of years ago, when we met at the university for the first time. In those days they were a big surprise for me, cause I only knew all that Berlin Squad Full HC Circle Pit Kickboxing Tough Guy Anything Testosterone shit and my demand in local scene was a minor until that time. Last year the guys released their first full length, so let´s have a ear what they´ve recorded.

The Rising Hope is the pathetic title of False Friend´s debut. Not that much creative but on the face of it I can accept considering to all those really dummy Punkrock bands around and I will take it a little bit ironically. The twelve piece album starts with those classic hardcore intro before the nice guys starts with one of my favs Take A Look Around. This song rise with melodic shoutings and dark guitars. Please listen to the end of this track. It´s a really great idea how to arrange different pieces, it makes it epic a bit. The coolness of False Friend is their talent to combine the driven energy of 90s melodic punkrock like Adhesiveor the late 90s Belvedere and modern Hardcore Punkrock with pounding phat drums and a heavy drop d tuning. Unbraked energy is the central theme and you will get no chance to relax. It reminds me to that classic punkrock thing. No pauses. No time to reflect before it´s over. Restless legs syndrom. Maybe that is the point for some critics. As much I love the seemingly never ending energy so heavily I awaiting more dynamic in the songs cause after a couple of tracks the heaviness is overwhelming.

What you want should be the opener for the soundtrack of my inner revolution. The hookline is that much great and catchy that you won´t forget to shout with Vik and Stefan. The following pieces don´t looking for any difference and so I´ve to determine that The Rising Hope is a great and classic Punkrock album how you want it and on the other hand a chance to create more space for some more individuality.
But it´s a fact: great band, nice dudes and a possibility for berlin´s scene to overcome its ignorance and social stupidness. Me is waiting for the next one, cause I believe in the potential of this often underrated band.

Industri Royal - Tacky Skills - Alleycat Records 2008

Imagine, it´s a mild autumn evening somewhere between heaven and hell. Suddenly you meet up with someone unknown and state you´ve something in common after a few minutes. When I met the guys of Swedens Industri Royal it was this evening described above. Swedish people are friendly, gallant and retiring positively. They´re married with charm, brainpower and a marked personality. But we should close all cliches and stereotypes about those absurd tribal handsomeness.

I could quit the review at this point ´cause the great Clashesque nuance catch me and I haven´t any idea to write about. Seriously the Industri Royal understand how to arrange cheesy songs. The opener I Can Keep A Secret starts with a catchy tapping and belongs to me even since the hooks.
In the face of my age I´m related to the lyrics. The tragic and curious matter of adolescence and come of age is the always restless companion of human being and Industri Royal.
Love Me Like A Sting Ray have some great guitar lick in the chorus reminds me on Randy´s X-Ray Eyes. I love the message of the song and believe in the introspective power of Industri Royal´s singer Joel Dunkels. So I´ll find a line and be able to follow through Tacky Skills. Conscious or not, the guys reflect one of the most important moments in life. They cross the inner border from boys to men and leave a 11 track summary for the next generation. Hits like Location manifest the potential behind the this album and hopefully many songs following. The arrangements are straight forward and cheesy melodic in general and I like the decent guitar never appears obtrusive and overdriven high gained.

Interesting for me the break with Former Friends. The song give chance for a rest so I can remind a bit of my former friends before Joel, Erik, Patrik and Jens turn into a little bit different kind to reflect. For me the first songs were more the age of accept, cause you even don´t have any idea about a solution for your questions and so you have to take it as it comes with the light-heartedness of youth. Later you will aks yourself how things going and you enter the times of a so called age of tried understandableness.

I´m searching for some faults and shortcomings hardly and found one maybe but can´t set me back with some unnecessary comments. Industri Royal don´t enlarge my musical horizone but they give certitude that honestly played rock music and friendship, with deep but no hyper coded lyrics, isn´t dead.

Dear Friend

Sometimes we woke up in a foggy cloud of amber love and respect and you will realize entirely there is someone special you´ll call a friend. In Decembre I wrote this song and dedicate it to Andi cause I wanna give all my heart and soul to this extraterrestrial friendship. For a songwriter it´s almost difficult to point words to express feeling and figure out how a melody will glue text and music at all. You will decide not that much intuitive, cause math isn´t unprejudiced, so if you´ve ever tried to write a song you´ve noticed there is a solid structure basically you can´t break through. It doesn´t matter. I love conventional songs which are cheesy and catchy. I need a Billboard 100 melody but a serious and good poem as an offset to the simple harmonies. Enjoy!

Dear friend here I am.
I´ll bring you light and sing this song.
These chords were made to say hello;
and thank god for your beeing there!

So tell me what we´re waiting for
cause or dreams never stand still
and we´ll keep our train running
and we´ll set the course
dear friend keep going on!

Switchbladed women we´d ride it out;
and keep smiling anyway.
Let´s embrace the world at all;
never forget what we´ve had.

If there is someone who´ll not only call my name,
when things are going wrong and only tears remain.
If there is no one you´ll be at my door,
take care and be my policy.

So tell me what we´re waiting for
cause or dreams never stand still
and we´ll keep our train running
and we´ll set the course
dear friend keep going on!

Dear Friend
